Scholarships for the Introductory Course to Teachers of Portuguese

Target Audience: Individuals interested in the teaching of Portuguese as a Foreign Language and/or as a Heritage Language
Course Description
The course will familiarise the teachers with pedagogical approaches and legal requirements in the UK as well as cover issues relevant to bilingualism and the learners of community/heritage languages.
Session Aims:
- To introduce teachers of Portuguese to the British educational system ;
- To ensure the teachers comply to local legal requirements, such as equality and children’s safeguarding;
- To familiarise the teachers with issues of bilingualism;
- To make the teachers aware of the needs of bilingual learners;
- To enable the teachers to plan language lessons across the curriculum;
- To support the development of materials for the teaching of Portuguese as a Heritage Language;
- To explore current approaches to teaching and learning;
- To explore different types of assessment;
- To provide teachers with the opportunity to visit British schools.

This is a 21-hour course designed for teachers of Portuguese who are teaching in the UK for the first time and/or without previous training in this country.
