Founder & CEO : Shirley Nunes

Shirley has been involved with music since she was a child. During her teenage years she was always connected with language and art, volunteering and being involved in cultural projects. In the last 10 years, she started to sing professionally in 2006 at pubs in São José do Rio Preto/ SP/ Brazil. Before coming to London she participated in various projects (Maracatu band, Carnaval band, Function band…) and has begun to study teaching (2004-2008). After teaching in a public school in Brazil (2009), Shirley decided to study English in London. Since being in the city, she has once again become involved in many musical projects (Maracatu Project, Samba-reggae Project, Forró Project) and regularly sings MPB (Brazilian Popular Music) in various London venues. In 2010, she began writing for the Brazilian News about language and music and after Brazilian Post about What’s on,  on the magazine such as Brazil Etc. about Artists, Real ‘Events’ and Elondres.com ‘Tips of English’. As a result of her many experiences in both the UK and Brazil, in 2012 Shirley decided to found an organisation to help promote Brazilian Art & Culture what involves many educational and cultural projects, workshops and lectures from teachers, and independents artists.  This organisation is called Culturart.co.uk.
